YOUNG ADULT ARTIST COHORTS!

Welcome to our Young Adult Multimedia Studio Cohort! Our YA Cohorts are for young adults who want to get more consistent and deepen their artistic practice, explore multiple media, develop voice and style and grow alongside other dedicated young artists.

In this supportive studio environment, students explore drawing, painting, illustration, mixed media, digital art, Procreate, observational drawing, visual storytelling, experimentation, composition, perspective, color theory, texture, lighting, personal creative projects and more, while developing both technical skills and artistic voice.

Every season is different, and is built for artists to continue throughout the year, year-after-year.

This cohort is designed for artists who:

• Enjoy experimenting across mediums and styles

• Want a long-term studio community

• Are interested in illustration, storytelling, fine art, or mixed media

• Want encouragement, feedback and artistic conversation

• Are looking for a consistent creative practice and supportive peer group

• Care about creativity and artistic growth

Students do not need to be “advanced” in every area to belong here. Some learners work extensively on projects outside of class, while others use the cohort as their primary weekly creative practice. Both approaches are welcome in our studio environment. Every artist starts where they are with each project and medium!

✨ STUDIO STRUCTURE ✨ Our cohort rotates through different mediums and artistic focuses throughout the year, allowing students to explore both short-form experimentation and longer-term creative development, and includes:

• Drawing • Acrylic painting • Watercolor painting • Soft pastel • Oil pastel • Ink • Alcohol markers • Colored pencils • Collage • Digital art in Procreate • Experimental multimedia projects • Mixed media • Illustration • Portfolio • Pastel • Fine art • Visual storytelling • Observational drawing • Multimedia art • Creative practice • Composition and perspective • Color theory and lighting • Texture and mark-making • Visual storytelling • Stylization and realism • Mixed media experimentation • Observational drawing • Artistic decision-making • Portfolio and project development • Critique and revision skills

Students are always welcome to adapt projects to their preferred medium whenever possible, including using Procreate when it works best for them.

Some projects are completed in a single class, while others continue across multiple weeks, giving artists opportunities to revisit ideas, deepen their work, experiment, revise, and develop more sustained creative projects over time.

✨ WHAT WE DO IN CLASS ✨

Every 50-minute session includes many of the following:

• Guided step-by-step projects

• Observational studies and technique demos

• Conversations about artistic process and inspiration

• Independent work time

• Artistic experimentation

• Technique exploration

• Critique and feedback

• Visual storytelling discussion

• Opportunities for students to pursue personal creative interests

Students are encouraged to modify projects, follow their interests, and gradually develop greater artistic independence over time.

✨ STUDIO CULTURE ✨ Our cohort is collaborative; neurodivergent-positive; welcoming to people of all backgrounds and perspectives; 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming; and grounded in kindness, curiosity, skill-building and experimentation rather than perfection or comparison.

✨ EXPERIENCE LEVEL ✨ Curiosity, openness, and commitment to showing up creatively are more important than technical skill level. This cohort is best for artists who already have some artistic experience and are excited to continue growing their creative practice.
